What’s Going On?

There is a proposed amendment to Indiana Medicaid Waivers (FSW and CIH) to limit allotted music therapy hours to 6 hours per month. Keys for Success offers a comprehensive approach to music therapy with individual, partner, and group sessions.

How Does the Proposed Cap Affect Me or Someone I Care About?

If you are scheduled for once weekly music therapy at Keys for Success, you likely have 6 hours per month of music therapy on your plan. If you are scheduled for MORE than one weekly session (either individual, group, or both!), you have more than 6 hours a month on your plan, and your services could be affected by this change.

Reasons People Attend Multiple Weekly Sessions:

  • To work on different goal areas in individual versus group settings

  • Group music therapy provides an opportunity to practice generalizing skills that have been worked on in individual sessions

  • To work with different therapists throughout the week to address a variety of goals

  • To support person centered needs and levels of care

Did You Know?

The 6 hours of music therapy covers more than just your session time! Providers use that allotment for sessions, session prep, required state documentation, and supporting individuals through participation on IDT teams.

Why Does This Cap Matter?

We believe this cap will limit choice and access to music therapy services and will have a disproportionate impact on individuals in rural communities who already have limited access or fewer choices of services than those in metropolitan areas. We strive to build community, opportunities for connection, and opportunities for developing skills and meeting goals through music therapy, and we believe this cap will limit those opportunities.

What Can I Do?
